United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship.  In the three months the application was open in 2019, over 7,000 young leaders applied to join the Class of 2019 on 1,209 campuses across 135 nations.  69 campuses worldwide (just 6%) were selected to host the 1,092 Millennium Fellows.  The Class of 2019 is bold, innovative, and inclusive. Millennium Fellows' Projects are projected to positively impact the lives of over 978,400 people worldwide this year.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Medical students Against Abuse of Drugs (MAAD)

Project MAAD is an initiative organized by the cohort of Millennium Fellows of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria. The project aims at stirring conversation and proffering solutions to the abuse of drugs with a focus on the students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and Secondary School students. The abuse herein covers both the use of hard substances as well as the misuse of legal drugs and its repercussions. The cohort aims to achieve the following goals during the Millennium Fellowship:

  1. Creating awareness on the menace and repercussions of abuse on drugs especially as it pertains to students.

  2. Understanding the causes/predisposing factors to abuse of drugs by the students.

  3. Ensuring the 3,000+ strong population of the college and about 1,000 students of select secondary schools have access to counseling services & current information on drug abuse and ways to curb it.

  4. Getting the involvement of the college authorities and government in providing active solutions to this drug abuse menace.

About the Millennium Fellow

Goodness Aniedi Udotong is a 400 level student of Medicine and Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. She is passionate about advancing SDGs 3 and 5 especially in the aspects of universal health coverage, mental health and female rights. She is a lover of Neal Shusterman novels, basketball and is excited to be a 2019 Millennium fellow.
