“I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I want to take my social impact and ideas to a greater level by inviting fellow students to be agents of change, working with them to develop practical actions, and implementing a campus-wide and community-wide project that improves the lives of many people. I am a big believer that only through our voice and dedication, can change truly happen.”

Millennium Fellowship Project

Student Initiative on Food Security (SIFS) is a campus-wide initiative that seeks to eradicate episodic food insecurity by introducing educational workshops and policy change discussions; establishing campus food resources, and creating a network of community volunteers to boost the local Food For Thought Garden in Clarksville, Arkansas. Throughout the Millennium Fellowship program, SIFS aims to accomplish the following goals:

  1. Host 5 food security workshops reaching a total of 400 students to help students access food assistance (impact will be tracked with pre/post surveys).

  2. Organize 10 campaigns to volunteer in the Food for Thought Garden with an expected total attendance of 300 students.

  3. Identify the number/type of food insecurity issues that students face with a campus-wide survey.

  4. Create 1 institutional agreement to improve food options for students in the campus food facilities.

  5. Open and Manage the first on-campus Food Bank for the Ozarks community.

  6. Reduce campus food waste by creating 1 food reclamation agreement to distribute edible food to students on and off campus.
