UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MILLENNIUM CAMPUS NETWORK PROUDLY PRESENT CARINA JOANNE FERNANDES, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2018.
"I am super excited to be a Millennium Fellow. This is my platform to help make a difference, raise awareness and implement new environmentally focused initiatives around our campuses."
P.E.A.C.E in Western Sydney is a framework for disrupting practices and current ideology within our University and wider community. We aim to PROMOTE via 5 identified internal media platforms targeting students (45,000) and staff (3,000), EDUCATE on current and future University and SDSN Youth initiatives including Responsible Cafes, Tea Bag Project, Plastic Lids installation and local High School Masterclass programs, Raise AWARENESS across the 5 main campuses personalizing the SDGs to local concerns, and Create two CAMPAIGNS:
1.) Challenging the University to re-evaluate current policies, practices and values.
2. ) Disrupt current unsustainable consumption and waste practices, i.e., single-use items. Finally, we will EMPOWER students and staff by implementing a new initiative, installing environmentally fact-based challenges related to a minimum of 3 SDGs across 5 main campuses.
I am currently studying a Bachelor of Nursing. I am passionate about helping my community, the environment and animals.
