UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT NATALIA REYES, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2020.
Florida International University | Florida, United States | Advancing SDG 5 & UNAI 6
" I'm extremely happy to be a Millennium Fellow because it will allow me to amplify the voices of those who are often silenced by society. It is the duty of those of us who have access to these resources to make space in the conversation for groups who wouldn't usually be included. I'm glad to work alongside people whose values align with mine and who share the belief that there should be no social, economic, or political disparities between the sexes. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: HER (Her Equal Rights)
HER will be a student organization affiliated with the FIU Honors College. HER will unify students who believe in gender equality by providing a platform to advocate for women's rights through fundraising and awareness. We hope to reach 73 active members this semester in honor of the 1973 decision on Roe v. Wade, a landmark US Supreme Court case that protects women's reproductive rights.
About the Millennium Fellow
Natalia Reyes is a sophomore at the FIU Honors College majoring in Biological Sciences on a pre-medical track. Growing up in Nicaragua, where machismo is prevalent, motivated her to consistently speak out on social issues, especially those regarding gender equality. In the future, she aspires to become a psychiatrist in order to increase diversity in medicine and to advocate for the destigmatization of mental health in the Hispanic community.
