" I am proud to be a part of the Millennium Fellowship because I have gotten to see many of the great projects that have been worked on in the past. I believe it is an incredible opportunity to work alongside like-minded individuals and better the world around us. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Haiti Solar Initiative
The Haiti Solar Initiative is designing and building relay power boxes that are safe to be used in people's homes for a small batch of electronic devices, most often one or two energy efficient light bulbs and a charging port for cellphones. The boxes are paired with a small portable solar panel that can readily be taken down and stored away at night or under bad weather. Basically the box has a battery that allows for the solar energy to be stored, and then used later for whatever devices the user wants to. They are also designing it so that they can hand it over to local entrepreneurs to produce it at scale, as well as provide local jobs. It's a win-win.
