UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT IQRA NOOR, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2020.
Harvard University | Massachusetts, United States | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3
" As a first-generation low-income student, I have faced challenges within myself (i.e. imposter syndrome), uncertainty for my future, and struggled with the mental toll this uncharted territory has on one. Now with this experience, I want to uplift others and be a resource to them in this difficult juggling act while fighting for a more equitable education system. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: We Soar Different Initiative
We Soar Different' Initiative will be for public high school students, with a specific focus on students from under-resourced high schools. It will include inspirational career information sessions for high school freshmen to encourage them to begin thinking about the possible future careers early on. Within this project, peer mentoring will be established, which will pair current students from Prince William County with either upperclassmen or an alum of their school to ease the uncertainty of high school and post-secondary plans and provide them with educational resources. The other aspect of this program will specifically revolve around high school juniors and seniors; college and scholarship boot camps will be held in each school of that county, and students will be provided guidance from current college students/college counselors and time to prep for standardized tests and work on their CommonApp, essays, FAFSA application, and scholarships.
