" I am tremendously glad to join the Millennium Fellowship because it is a stepping stone for me to implement the much needed SDGs in my community. I am excited to collaborate with peers who share the same vision. I believe that it is my moral duty to serve my community and to make our society a better place to live in. I will work tirelessly to achieve Responsible Consumption and Production. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Bala Waste
Bala Waste is a project that aims to spread awareness on the waste crisis, of the utmost gravity, that is plaguing Lebanon. They want to prompt behavioral change on campus and within the community regarding waste management. Via panel discussions, workshops, and various events, they aim to acquaint their peers with the reduction of waste and food spoilage, recycling, composting etc. The end goal is to move away from dumping waste in the landfill to managing it as close to the source as possible. People often ignore the impact of their consumption on their environment, Bala Waste is here to educate the youth on Responsible Consumption and Production, i.e. UN SDG 12.
They aim to conduct 3 practical workshops on composting and recycling that will each benefit 20 people on campus. They also aim to gain at least 600 followers on Instagram and educate at least 100 middle school students on the importance of waste reduction in the form of an awareness campaign. In addition, they hope to host a conference with a guest speaker reaching 100 people. And finally, they hope to raise a fund for a recycling center in Beirut.
