UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT BENSON CONRAD MAYANJA, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2020.
Makerere University | Kampala, Uganda | Advancing SDG 16 & UNAI 6
" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because the ability to change the face of the world starts with opportunities like these. With immense and dire suffering hinged on social injustice and flaunting rule of law, concerted efforts aimed at restorative justice and fair inclusion into a rehabilitated system can change the status quo. The Millennium Fellowship Program is a perfect platform upon which I can continue the global obligation of making the world around me a holistically better place to live in; and that is my goal. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: THE SOCIAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE
Social injustice is hinged on exclusivity in decision making and this creates a system that is inherently unfair and the implementation of policies manifests the significant disparity between the haves and have nots. The Social Justice Initiative is calibrated to bridge the gap between the vulnerable communities and the leadership structure in the region. Between August and December, the Fellows ought to have hosted various Town Hall discussions and formulated proposals to district authorities which they shall follow to completion.
They believe that in order to achieve development from a Human Rights front, the Government agencies need to axis with the masses and formulate law that aids in attaining equitable justice for all. More importantly, at Western Uganda Debate Society (the lead partner for the Project) there is strong belief in training youth advocacy through speech and print as they strive to creating a generation that possesses great solicitude for Human Rights and Social Justice.
