UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT EMERSON VICTORIA JOHNSTON, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2020.
Northeastern University | Massachusetts, United States | Advancing SDG 5 & UNAI 2
" To be welcomed as a part of the 2020 Millennium Fellowship is to join one of the most ambitious groups of young people from all around the world who share my dedication to the sustainable development goals and to international development. I cannot describe the honor I feel being a part of this year's cohort. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: International Men's Day 2020
Too often are men's issues only brought up as refutations to the validity of women's issues. According to Google, international men's day is most often looked up on International Women's Day. International men's day 2020 is Emerson's way of saying men's issues deserve a platform, they deserve to be shared, but they should be shared on a day dedicated to them, not on a day dedicated to women. His original proposal contained a physical event where these issues will be addressed by speakers. In light of the COVID-19 crisis, he believe it is in everyone's best interest to move this event online, something that will not only allow for more people to join but also allow more people to speak. He would like international men's day to be a day-long speaker series that features five or six speakers on five or six different topics related to men's issues. As such, some goals he have in mind include booking speakers, settling topics, drafting questions, writing a program, programming the event site and more.
