" A guiding principle in my life is community values. To be apart of the Millennium Fellowship is an exciting opportunity to provide for my local community, as well as connect with a community of passionate students from afar. It is a privilege to work in something as impactful as the Millennium Fellowship. I look forward to learn as I work! "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Creole Connections
Creole Connections is an online resource to provide a holistic welcoming to Salisbury, Maryland's Haitian Community.
A rural area, the Eastern Shore of Maryland is home to a growing population of new immigrants from Haiti. Immigrating to a new country can be a stressful time. Even worse, language barriers can make newcomers feel isolated. It is especially apparent in such divisive times that communication and understanding of our neighbors facilitates wellbeing and prosperity for our communities.
Creole Connections will be a website that will aim to serve as a comprehensive resource for Salisbury's Haitian community. There, we will provide means to access resources for language learning, and guides to access local amenities and services. This website will be provided in English, French, and Creole.
