Millennium Fellowship Project: Affordable Housing Impact Fund
My idea is called Jia Impact Capital, where 家 (jia) is the Chinese word for home or family. When jia is paired with different Chinese characters, it can form words including country, hometown, and everybody; everyone. I chose the word jia because it represents the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible. Our home is our gateway to the outside world and connects us to our family, hometown, and country
Growing up in a half- Chinese and half-American household, I really admired the beauty of Chinese words because they can convey so many dual-meanings. People, just like words, are multifaceted, and deserve to be understood and accepted for all their little parts. Jia Impact Capital is set in Philadelphia and will first serve the Fairhill neighborhood, historically the most socially and economically depressed neighborhood in the city with a poverty rate of 61% according to the Census. Although the fund is focused on providing residents with affordable housing options.
