Millennium Fellowship Project: SHIKSHANAM

There is an undeniable divide between resources in the society which makes itself evident in forms entailing around access and privilege. We realized the deplorable state of quality educational access around us and how it is not sufficient to help people make a tangible difference in their lives. An integrated approach with an amalgamation of core educational aspects and skill education is essential for a person to survive decently in today’s time. The project encompasses two major sub themes: Quality Education and imparting Vocational and Technical Skills.
Keeping this in mind, we will initiate our first project on setting up a curriculum that is inclusive in nature and actually helps individuals rather than simply being a task set aside. Usually, most curriculums run and taught by NGOs and other non profit organisations focus on basic routine topics that are seldom helpful in a concrete and tangible manner. We want to actually make sure that people benefit from our cause. The objective sought by our proposal is to not only educate children academically but also impart them actual skills that help them flourish in the modern world. For the second limb of our project, we would propose a primary and secondary education level curriculum in two languages primarily, Hindi and English. The curriculum would be inclusive of course material that would help the course taker to become proficient in the subjects and secure admission in an educational institution via the Right to Education Act. This curriculum would not be restricted to core educational aspects but would also lay emphasis on integral skills such as basic knowledge of computers and the internet. It would also include sensitization campaigns pertaining to topics such as gender roles, menstruation, equality etc. The
students would be taught how to use the internet for their benefit which includes researching over the internet, using applications such as YouTube to study etc. As law students, we want to make them aware of their basic rights and teach them how to file and register basic complaints such as those with the consumer forums etc. This would help them tackle situations where they are being wronged in an unfair manner for no fault of theirs.
