Millennium Fellowship Project: The Social Inclusion Project
Persons with intellectual disabilities are often
victims of social exclusion. My project has the
objective of promoting the social inclusion of
persons with intellectual disabilities. This will be
done by hosting events in which both persons
with intellectual disabilities and those without
intellectual disabilities can interact. Research has
found that much of the discrimination and social
exclusion faced by persons with intellectual
disabilities are due to stereotypes and
misunderstandings about those with intellectual
disabilities. Research also confirms that social
inclusion has resulted in a more positive outlook
on the social identity and perspective of children
with disabilities” (Albrecht et al 3). I believe that
with proximity this problem can be hindered.
About the Millennium Fellow
Jaeda Campbell is a vibrant and motivated pre-medical student at the University of Miami. She has resided on the beautiful island of Jamaica for most of her life. Her environmental upbringing nurtured her passion for helping others and advocating for human rights. Throughout high school and college, she has organized projects to help those in need within Jamaican communities. She has also used her dynamic personality to bring joy to those in the Florida community. In the future, Jaeda hopes to become a world-renowned physician who can help those who are ill while also contributing to research in human rights and social injustice to improve the lives of others.
