"
Millennium Fellowship Project: SheThrives Ethiopia
Project Name: SheThrives Ethiopia Focus: SDG 5 (Gender Equality) & SDG 8 (Decent Work) Description: SheThrives Ethiopia empowers women in Addis Ababa’s informal sector—such as street vendors, weavers, and small-scale traders to overcome economic and social barriers. Many of these women lack access to financial resources, market opportunities, and training, limiting their income potential. This project provides three core supports: 1. Financial Literacy Workshops: Teach budgeting, savings, and microloan management to help women grow their businesses sustainably. 2. Digital Market Access: Partner with local tech hubs to create simple online platforms (e.g., social media pages) for women to showcase and sell products directly to urban customers, cutting out exploitative middlemen. 3. Cooperative Building: Form women-led cooperatives to bulk-buy materials, negotiate fair prices, and share resources, fostering collective growth. We collaborate with organizations like Enat Bank for microloans and the Lideta Women’s Association to reach marginalized groups. As a management student, I will organize workshops, coordinate partnerships, and track progress through surveys and income data. Impact Goals (6 months): - Train 200+ women in financial literacy. - Increase average monthly income by 20% for participants. - Launch 5 cooperatives to ensure long-term sustainability.
