" My drive to create a lasting social impact is rooted in my belief that education is the most powerful tool for change. The Millennium Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with like-minded peers and transform my ideas for a student-led tutoring network into a reality. This fellowship will not only equip me with the skills to make my project tangible and sustainable, but also align my efforts with the principles of the United Nations, ensuring my work contributes to a broader, global mission of positive change. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Ethio Bright Minds Initiative
I volunteered on a community-based education project focused on supporting middle school students at Hidase Government School. Many of these students faced academic challenges and lacked access to extra guidance outside school hours. To help bridge this gap, I took the initiative to create a small study platform that connected them with volunteer tutors—students who were willing to serve their community by sharing their knowledge and time.
My role involved identifying the subjects where students needed the most support, organizing tutoring sessions, and recruiting committed volunteer tutors. I helped match each student with someone who could guide them based on their academic needs. I also coordinated schedules, monitored attendance, and followed up with both tutors and students to ensure the sessions were effective and consistent.
The project provided a safe and supportive space for learning. Students received extra help in core subjects, improved their confidence, and felt more motivated in their studies. The volunteer tutors also benefited by gaining experience, leadership skills, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their community.
Overall, this project strengthened educational access for Hidase Government School students and encouraged a culture of peer support and community service.
