" I believe every child deserves the chance to learn and dream beyond the streets. Being a Millennium Fellow will give me the tools, mentorship, and global community to transform my vision into action. Through this Fellowship, I hope to turn empathy into structured impact, ensuring that children forced into begging find their way into classrooms and toward a brighter future. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Cycle Redefined

Cycle REDefined is a student-led project focused on addressing period poverty and making conversations about menstruation feel normal on campus. We ran a sanitary pad collection drive, shared awareness posts, and encouraged open discussions in classrooms and student groups. This helped students realise that period poverty exists close to home and that even small contributions matter. We collected over 200 sanitary pads and partnered with the Tare Zameen Foundation to make sure they reached women and girls who needed them. The project ran on donations and campus support, and it helped create a more comfortable, informed environment for talking about menstrual health.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ishani Sharma is a third-year Business Administration student at Christ (Deemed to be University), Delhi-NCR, and a Millennium Fellow (Class of 2025). She is passionate about advancing SDG 4: Quality Education and will lead the project Umeed pe duniya kayam, which aims to support children forced into begging at traffic signals by helping them transition into schools and providing regular tutoring support. Ishani has previously taught children of construction laborers, an experience that strengthened her empathy and dedication to education for all. She aspires to scale this initiative nationally and advocate for stronger policies on child labor and education accessibility.
