" Empathy and awareness drive my commitment to social change. Through my project, Jeevan Jyoti, I aim to empower slum communities with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that foster independence and dignity. The Millennium Fellowship offers a platform to amplify this impact, connect with like-minded change makers, and refine my approach to sustainable development. I am excited to translate my legal training into grassroots action, aligning with the UNAI principles and SDGs to create change that lasts beyond the Fellowship. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Jeevan Jyoti- Bringing Life to the Slums

Jeevan Jyoti is a community-based initiative aimed at improving the quality of life in urban slum areas by spreading awareness, increasing access to essential resources, and empowering residents to make informed choices. The project focuses on four key areas that deeply affect daily life, education, health & sanitation, employment, and women’s empowerment.
Many families in slum communities struggle not because they lack motivation, but because they lack information. Jeevan Jyoti works to bridge this gap. Through awareness sessions, the project explains government schemes, schooling options, basic hygiene practices, and employment opportunities in a simple, practical way that people can immediately use.
Women and girls are a core priority. The project provides menstrual health awareness, self-defense workshops, and basic financial literacy, helping them feel confident and independent. Sanitation workshops educate families on clean water practices, waste management, and personal hygiene, small steps that significantly reduce illness.
Jeevan Jyoti is not charity. It is about empowering people with knowledge, shifting mindsets, and helping communities realise they can shape a better future for themselves. The goal is to create sustainable, long-term change by enabling individuals to make informed decisions that uplift their families and community.
