" I'm elated to be chosen as a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the power and the voice I need to make a change. It provides the perfect platform to work towards the betterment of the society. Millennium Fellowship will open new avenues and opportunities for me and will allow me to connect with like minded people, so we can make a bigger change together. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Bahaar e Khizan

My project, Bahaar e Khizan, is the revival of spring in the autumn of life. It primarily caters to individuals from the boomer generation, who have spent their entire lives working tirelessly to provide and nurture. However, upon retirement, many find their once-busy lives come to an abrupt standstill. With long days spent in idleness and limited social engagement, feelings of emptiness, irritability, and isolation begin to grow. Over time, the weariness of age, lack of purpose, and unspoken sense of being unneeded can lead to depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.
Bahaar e Khizan aims to identify these challenges, provide safe spaces for emotional expression, and create a sense of community among retired individuals, where they can talk, laugh, and rediscover joy. The project also seeks to sensitize their families about the struggles faced by their parents and grandparents, fostering empathy, understanding, and intergenerational inclusivity.
