" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it connects me with change makers who believe, like I do, that access to safe water and a healthy environment is a human right. My work is fueled by the vision of communities rising beyond barriers, shaping a future where nature and people thrive together. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Maji Mazuri Afrika

Maji Mazuri Wellsprings is a community-driven safe water initiative working in Kenya’s Central Rift Valley, where high fluoride levels have caused generations of dental and skeletal fluorosis. The project provides an affordable, nature-based solution using Moringa oleifera seed char to filter fluoride from drinking water, alongside a comparative evaluation with the AquaClara two-bucket system to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.
Beyond filtration, the project focuses on awareness and health education, helping families understand the dangers of contaminated water and empowering them with practical solutions.
