" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact in addressing health inequities, an essential UN SDG. As an aspiring doctor, I am passionate about improving the lives of those who are disadvantaged in our community, and this fellowship will allow me to gain meaningful experiences and direct interactions with the people I hope to serve in the future. I look forward to growing as a leader while advancing projects that create lasting, equitable change. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Women's Wellness Project

The Women's Wellness Project is led by Millennium Fellows Chinara Lau and Jenny Cheng to address gaps in women’s healthcare access and health literacy in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities across the Gold Coast. The initiative aims to improve access to essential products, including period products, maternal healthcare supplies, and nutritional support, while enhancing health literacy through partnerships with local healthcare charities and women’s health services. From August to December 2025, the team plans to host two fundraising events to raise $500 and directly assist at least 200 women. By alleviating barriers such as the cost and availability of basic health products and connecting women with trusted health services and educational resources, the project seeks to empower women to take charge of their health, improve overall wellbeing, and foster long-term community resilience.

About the Millennium Fellow

Jenny Cheng is a driven, compassionate and globally minded student from Queensland, Australia, with a strong commitment to leadership and social justice. Her passion spans across global affairs - particularly politics and economics - gender equality, female empowerment and health equity. Since high school, she has consistently held leadership roles and organised community initiatives, including coordinating a toy drive for her local children’s hospital. Inspired by Doctors Without Borders and committed to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, she has always aspired to pursue a career in medicine with a focus on rural health and reducing inequities in access to care. She has also undertaken two medical research internships, further strengthening her dedication to combining clinical practice with scientific progress. Beginning medical school next year, Jenny looks forward to making meaningful contributions to both medicine and society.
