" "Equality is not just an ideal I believe in — it is the future I am determined to help create. The Millennium Fellowship will allow me to join forces with change makers who share my vision for a world where women’s rights are non-negotiable, and sustainability is the foundation on which lasting empowerment is built. By turning compassion into action and ideas into lasting change, I aim to empower voices that are too often unheard and build communities where everyone can thrive." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Traco

Traco is a food waste reduction/management system. University students on campus rely on messes, which use a 'Buffet' system. We realised that there is enormous amount of food wastage that happens on a daily basis in our campus messes. After interviewing some of the caterers, we found that almost 1000 kg of food is wasted in our institute on a daily basis which can feed roughly 400 people. The primary reasons for this food wastage are: - Students often overestimate their appetite and take excess food -The long queues lead students to pile up more food in the plate to avoid seconds - Excess food is produced to ensure no one goes hungry The halls in our campus don't track or analyse any part of the process, neither consumption nor wastage. There is no system in place that reduces the waste being generated. Everyday waste is generated, the management disposes it and the same amount of waste is there next day. With Traco, we can: - track quantity and quality of meals served, - track its consumption and wastage - suggest meal servings based on data. All of these measures will allow the caterers to reduce their food wastage.
