Millennium Fellowship Project: Better Life for IDP Mothers

My project captioned "Better Life for IDP Mothers" is a community-based project specifically geared towards improving the health conditions of pregnant women and nursing mothers domiciled in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Rivers State Nigeria. The project was necessitated by my utmost desire to give back to my community. Unarguably, Health care service delivery is a vital factor for sustainable development. To this end, my project is targeted at strengthening the foot of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good health and wellbeing). I initiated this project during my vacation in 2023. I started by collaborating with some medical practitioners and we provided free healthcare services for the pregnant women and nursing mothers living in the IDP camp. We conducted Immunizations and Screenings. Furthermore, we hosted Pep talk on Childcare, breastfeeding techniques, newborn hygiene. Insecticide treated mosquito nets were also donated. This initiative reached out to over 100 women. In overall, the initiative was impactful. Presently, I have the intent of extending this project to an additional IDP camp. This time, I intend to also provide food items to the women. Interestingly, this project won the First place Award of the Maiden edition of the Baobab Giveback Competition in 2023.
