" I am excited to join the Millennium Fellowship because it offers a globally recognized platform to sharpen my personal, professional, and leadership skills while connecting with like-minded change makers. My work focuses on bridging the awareness gap on hepatitis and hypertension among local communities, driving impact that improves lives and promotes sustainability. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Be Hepa and Hyper Aware

Be Hepa and Hyper Aware project is a social impact initiative that focuses on advocacy and education about hepatitis and hypertension. This was an idea envisioned by my fellow co founders - Abdus-salam Fatiha and Sangosanya Alimat - and myself based on our interests and passion. In Nigeria, Hypertension is a predominant disease among the older communities. Hepatitis, on the other hand is a deadly yet very preventable disease especially by vaccination but with very little awareness about it. So, this project is designed as an avenue to properly educate members of our communities with "secondary school students" and "older people" as our target audience. We designed the project into two parts. First is an educational section to several secondary schools to teach the students about these diseases so they can lead a healthy lifestyle. Secondly, we will conduct communities outreaches focusing on older adults where we will provide free blood pressure checks and hepatitis testing while also creating awareness about these disease, the causes, risk factors and preventions and the importance of hepatitis vaccination. Additionally, the project is designed as a long term initiative to ensure continuous interventions for our communities through outreach programmes every year.
