Millennium Fellowship Project: SDG 6 Action in Slums
SDG 6 Action in Slums is an independent project led by Millennium Fellow Pavithra K, focused on clean water, safe sanitation, and hygiene as essential components of healthy living and the core goal of the project. The project serves people living in poverty and slum areas who do not have access to basic essentials such as clean toilets and drinking water. To fulfill the project objectives aligned with SDG 6, I focused on understanding the real challenges faced by people living in the slum areas near Stella Maris College by conducting surveys and interviews to gather firsthand insights on access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene resources. This data collection helped identify key issues such as limited access to potable water and inadequate public restrooms, and during my final engagement, I encouraged residents, especially women, to speak up and voice their concerns regarding sanitation and hygiene challenges. Although the project is still in its initial stages, completing the information-gathering phase marks an important milestone.
