" "I am excited to see the real world impact of social change. My hope is to work on my "Onions Have Layers" project with my team and to really have a positive impact and change the view of sustainability in the youth. I strive for them to see us, young millennials to be working and crafting for change to simultaneously inspire them." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Onions Have Layers Childrens Storybook
Our group from one of my core Sustainability modules have made a book addressing food waste called "Onions Have Layers". We decided to make a book about it as the topic has been dealt with in many ways yet hasn't triggered an effective response. We decided on the target audience of young children as it will help foster a sense of respect and appreciation for our food system, this is starting from the root and hopefully growing a more sustainable generation that places value on the food we eat. We want to instill behaviors and habits around food waste in children to allow them to become educated about this matter from a young age. Our objective is to encourage a connection between people and nature, therefore placing value on the food produced and brought into Irish homes. We hope to achieve this by using a more systemic approach, which illustrates the importance of our strong connection to the earth, to encourage people to think differently about food waste.
