Millennium Fellowship Project: Ecotrees Initiative
Ecotrees Initiative is an eco-friendly innovation that transforms banana waste fibers into safer, sustainable hair extensions as an alternative to synthetic ones that can harm both women and the environment. This project serves women and young entrepreneurs in the beauty industry by promoting safer beauty choices and reducing plastic and chemical waste. Through research, awareness, and prototype development, the initiative aims to inspire a shift toward responsible production and consumption while empowering communities to see sustainability as both achievable and profitable. Primary SDG: SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production Supporting SDG: SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
About the Millennium Fellow
Deborah Akano is a driven metallurgical and materials engineering student and entrepreneur. She is passionate about engineering solutions, business innovation, and empowering others through her brand, Pulchritude Hair. During her internship at an oil company, Deborah gained hands-on experience in project management, safety practices, and materials engineering applications. Beyond academics, she is committed to creativity, leadership, and continuous growth. She enjoys balancing technical expertise with her entrepreneurial pursuits, while inspiring others through her dedication and resilience.
