UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT PRIYANSSI BEHERA, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.
Vanderbilt University | Nashville, United States | Advancing SDG 10, SDG 16 & UNAI 1

" As an immigrant myself, I am dedicated to advocating for immigrant communities and their rights amid a complex, fragmented immigration system. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I can engage in thought-provoking conversations that help mobilize student efforts and result in tangible outcomes. I am excited to listen to the valuable stories of newcomers with humility and empathy, while encouraging action. With the help of proper resources, I was well supported in my immigration journey, and the least I can do is ensure that others are as well. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Connect Nashville: Immigrant Resource Initiative
The project will consist of partnering with local organizations such as the Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) and the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) to serve a more extensive immigrant community through community-based initiatives. There are three distinct steps to ensuring that these communities gain access to the resources they need: we must compile a large spreadsheet of the local immigrants in Nashville, partner with local organizations and non-profits to discuss the available resources, and work together to bridge the gap between the resources and the refugee and immigrant communities through service. This includes getting involved in legal clinics, ESL programs, and other initiatives. Additionally, I plan on hosting community events that allow different communities to interact with one another and build their sense of belonging. The project will also involve Vanderbilt students, as it will include educational initiatives that foster meaningful dialogue about newcomers and the resettlement process.
