ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2018
United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. In the three months the application was open in 2018, students applied to join the Class of 2018 on 285 campuses across 57 nations. 30 campuses worldwide (just 11%) were selected to host the 530 Millennium Fellows in the global pilot this year.
The Class of 2018 is bold, innovative, and inclusive. Millennium Fellows' Projects are projected to positively impact the lives of over 310,000 people worldwide this year.
“I am really excited to be a a Millennium Fellow because it’s a great way to learn from others how to help people from my country who don’t have access to private health care and also teach them the importance of preventing oral diseases. It’s a great way to put into action a good project while learning how to do it the right way.”
Millennium Fellowship Project
The Project of Preventive and Restorative Oral Health Care in Schoolchildren aged between 5-14 years is a project that aims to educate children of a vulnerable population to promote healthy lifestyle. Two communities will be visited to carry out the following activities: brushing techniques, oral care, oral hygiene, preventive and curative care, simplified oral hygiene index, caries index. Approximately 200 people will benefit from these activities. This project is advising the principal of addressing poverty because the team is focusing on school children of vulnerable populations in their country that can’t afford private health care. Also the commitment of human rights to children that have the right to learn and get the service of oral health.
About the Millennium Fellow
Daniela Gudiño is a dentistry student in her last year of university. Maria initially studied public relations and communication because she was scared to pursue dentistry, by then she had the courage to change careers and follow what she really wanted to do. Now, Maria is really close to achieving her degree as a dentist and she does not regret her decision. Maria loves to see the smiles of all her patients when she does a good job. To Maria, it is not only about how it looks but instead about how you can give confidence to someone by helping them recover their oral health.
