" The famous quote "be the change you wish to see in the world" epitomises my eagerness and exhilaration on receiving this opportunity to be a Millennium Fellow. It is truly an honour, as through this platform I have the ability to offer my thoughts towards the development of the better world I'd like to live in. With just a basic foundation of ideas to combat fashion being one of the largest contributors to the degradation of our environment, I am eager to develop and grow the ideas through the Fellowship. Through the years I have expressed this need of momentum towards sustainability in my varied projects and now am thrilled to be able to apply my ideas in the real world. Not only can I build from here but I can build with a community of determined and passionate Fellows, connecting with them and their work, mingling to innovate a brighter future; further inspiring me to do more. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Rethinking Fashion
We will be working to advance SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and SDG 13 (Climate action) on campus and in our local area. Our project "Rethinking fashion " will aim at making people conscious consumers who are aware about the negative effects of fashion and that their consumption impacts the society at large. Being fashion enthusiasts, it’s really heartbreaking for us to see hoards of garments being dumped into the landfills which are hardly being worn. We want to create an awareness about how dumped clothing has a negative impact on our environment. To overcome this, we want to bring out humanity, a human connection to the garment which is missing today and how we can reuse our old clothing. We want to remind people of the environmental based sustainable ways to improve fashion. We have made a commitment to make fashion a force of good.
