Universidad de Monterrey | Monterrey, Mexico | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 5
" I am very excited in being part of the Millennium Fellowship class of 2020 because I am willing to help Mexico with the severe problem we have of lack of quality education in certain communities. I am also very interested in participating with a group of people who are willing to give their time to being at service of others and I am willing to listen the different point of view people of this group have. I put my hart on this project, because the world won't get better by itself. I want to be the change I have been waiting for. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: "Irradia Luz"
Quality education in Mexico is a project that is focusing on a severe problem occurring in Mexico nowadays, which is the quality of education. What this project is trying to implement is giving scholarships, to people who are interested and have good grades, in universities just like University of Monterrey that do offer quality education. By receiving the scholarship, they are committed to spreading their learning and knowledge acquired at that university to their classmates in their communities. That will be their way of helping their communities, just as we will be helping them. In the long term, we will like this to be an opportunity for students at the University of Monterrey to do their social service at those communities so they can help spreading knowledge as well. This project includes inclusive leadership because we are letting people have the same opportunities of quality education as others. The project is also humble because we are trying to improve a very severe problem in Mexico, helping those kids get the full scholarships to the best Universities in Monterrey. An excellent opportunity for creating a big social impact to improve a big problem we have in Mexico.
The goals we are trying to achieve within August-December 2020 are:
- First of all, we’d like to do a thorough research on the communities we'll be working in so that we are able to grant the scholarships to people who actually want and deserve it.
- Be able to grant five outstanding people a scholarship from the best universities in Monterrey, specifically from the Universidad de Monterrey, so that they are able to receive an excellent quality education.
- By 2021 start implementing the project and try to increase the students who will be getting the scholarships each semester.
- Each semester grant 5 new scholarships.
- Twice a month we’ll diagnose how the people that get the scholarship are doing at the University.
- By 2023 start implementing the project nationally little by little.
