African Leadership University | Pamplemousses, Mauritius | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3
" My dedication to education comes from a desire to impact others and make the world a better place.
Participation in the Millennium Fellowship is a great way to develop these abilities in a team setting.
The knowledge and experience I obtain from the program will have a significant positive impact on local youth and educational institutions.
This work aligns with the objectives of the UNAI and the SDGs, and I do it because I believe that education is essential to achieving those goals.
I can't wait to develop my foresight and prepare myself to take on more leadership roles. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Hope For All Orphanage School
An upcoming orphanage school in Tathera Village in Malawi's south will provide hope for all. It intends to provide free education to orphans and needy people who express a desire to learn. My inspiration for establishing an orphanage in this village came from the fact that there are many orphans in this area who do not have access to education because their guardians cannot afford it, and most opportunities, such as orphanage schools, do not reach this area because it is a typical village. As a result, there is a high rate of school dropout, early marriages, unemployment, and a high crime rate, to name a few consequences. All of these issues eventually have an impact on the economy, resulting in never-ending poverty.
About the Millennium Fellow
Idah Geoffrey, a student at African Leadership University in Mauritius, one of the greatest universities in Africa, is a brilliant young leader and a world class social science student.
A true global citizen, Idah was born and raised in Malawi and now attends university in Pamplemousses, Mauritius.
Since she can recall, Idah has been driven by a desire to ensure that all children, especially those who are particularly at risk or disadvantaged, have access to a good education.
This is evidenced by the fact that she is currently working on a project to construct a community, fully-equipped nursery school for children in rural Malawi, so that they may have the opportunity to learn in optimal conditions, in keeping with her firm belief that all children are entitled to a better education.
The youngsters had been doing their studies under a tree, but they were having a hard time concentrating on their schoolwork because of all the distractions around them.
Idah hopes to work in an area where she can advance these concerns and make her own contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations.
