Millennium Fellowship Project: Green Fireflies

I am a person who is always concerned about environmental issues. I feel fascinated to serve mother nature from the experience of working in a nature-oriented club in the higher secondary level of my study. I worked as President of Publication at Notre Dame Nature Study Club. From the overall learning experience of my club, I realize that we should focus on environmental education to upbring an environment-friendly generation. I believe environmental education should be introduced at a very early period of life to sensitize the person toward mother earth. Therefore, my plan is to develop a project about spreading environmental education among children. The objective of Project Green Fireflies will be to teach kindergarten children basic environmental ethics through easy and simple education materials e.g., poster paper presentations, etc. Students below age 10 will be my target audience. I intend to make children aware of some very fundamental but significant environmental issues such as pollution, carbon footprints, climate change, etc. I will contact kindergarten authorities and arrange several sessions for children where they will be taught different environmental issues and can participate in oral quizzes. Most importantly, I want to present a seedling to every child and request them to upbring the seedling and grow it as a tree. I believe that every student achieves empathy towards mother nature through this activity. As a millennium fellow, I will be working as Program Manager of Project Green Fireflies. I will try to collect funds to present seedlings among children and to prepare education material. I hope to educate at least 250 kindergarten students during my fellowship. By the end of the project, I may claim I can make some significant social impact with very limited resources. To sum up, my dream project is to bring up an environment-sensitive generation who will feel empathy for mother earth and Project Green Fireflies is just the beginning. I believe from my heart that I can bring up a few green fireflies who will lighten our mother earth.
