" Being a social worker by choice it has always been my vision and thinking to do something noble for the underprivileged and socially uplifted people of society. So I think MCN will provide us the platform to think of various ideas to work for their betterment. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Kalam Ko Salam

Kalam Ko Salam is an initiative by NSS DTU. Under this project, we teach children of construction workers inside our college campus. Some part of our university is under construction and the labour there is on daily wage, their children were not getting any education, therefore we also provide basic education and 2 meals to 17 students on 3 days of the week. Apart from teaching we also indulge them in extracurricular activities to work on their holistic development. For these children, the major challenge is the migration of their parents which does not provide them a stable environment to study. So we took this initiative to remove this barrier and make education accessible to them as well. We also teach over 60 children of nearby slums at Shubhakshika Educational Society. We make a planned curriculum for them so that they gradually and easily learn the basics. We also categorize them as beginners, intermediate and advanced according to their ability to learn and we try to make them understand concepts in an easy way. We explain concepts to them by making use of real objects around us and being as practical as we can. We regularly evaluate them to check their progress and understanding of the concepts. We conduct regular donation drives to give these kids new clothes and stationery items.
