" I believe it is our responsibility to leave the world a better place than we found it.
Being from a privileged family and having access to quality education, the people I work for belong from
very different backgrounds.Even though we are not from the same community we all
are humans and something as basic as education is the right of everyone. Just being
human enough can make us realise how important is quality education . Despite
the fact that India passed the Right to Education Act in 2009, quality education still remains a hurdle. Through Millennium Fellowship I want my project to reach as many people as possible. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Noor
Project NOOR is the community outreach program of our college i.e INDRAPRASTHA COLLEGE, DELHI UNIVERSITY. We together as a team work towards ensuring quality education is available to everyone and not just the elites. We function in 2 wings and our team is divided into 3 subgroups. The focus of the first wing is teaching those who don't have access to education which includes children and adults including women. We also make sure to teach them about prevelent issues in our society by
breaking their stigmas and positively influencing them to think and recognise their
legal rights. Anyone who is willing to learn, we are happy to help them and are most welcomed. Apart from teaching, our goal is also to ensure that the initiatives by government like scholarships, programmes and schemes like Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY),
Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana reaches the grassroot level so that they are aware of their basic rights and no one gets left behind and exploited. Our operation takes place in the areas near Vidhan Sabha, Delhi. Our SECOND
wing focuses on eliminating manual scavenging by financially empowering women by
providing them with alternative jobs. We run a small business called 'Noor e bazaar,'
where we sell hand stitched apparel made by Valmiki Community women. All the
profits generated becomes their income. Our team which is divided into 3 subgroups on the basis of each members strength and passion. One group goes to the field daily and works on implementation and execution part while the other two groups works from behind the scenes which includes research and content. The research team's work is to find resources and identify problems while the content team works towards making sure project NOOR reaches everyone through various platforms, it played a very important role during the pandemic when everything started online. We are also planning to start a youtube channel soon
