" As a Millennium Fellow, I and my team tackle a difficult issue and execute our own project that addresses the needs in our area. We also have opportunities to network, receive feedback and coaching, and reflect. Beyond working with each other, we may also work with our university's admisintration or community leaders to help advance our objectives. The Fellowship sparks the "Ability to lead and find courage in turning our ideas into action" and "Amplifies the voices of the people committed to making change". By being a Millennium Fellow, we can join a cohort of global changemakers. Being in the Millennium Fellowship program often develops an even stronger interest in global health, international policy and social justice. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Tawwaqo

Tawwaqo, an Arabic-origin word means ‘Hope’. Project Tawwaqo is an initiative working with Afghan women’s refugee community that is settled in Jangpura, Delhi. It focuses on two SDGs, Goal 8(Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 5(Gender Equality) and UNAI Principle 7(Promoting Inter-cultural Dialogue). A community of 60+ skilled women have come over the last few months to collectively work on creating handcrafted products. Through Project Tawwaqo, we have created a platform for these women to carve their identities and empower themselves and each other. With the help of our privilege, network as young college students, and knowledge on creating a brand-through online and offline means, we have and are still in the process of showcasing their multiple talents through various means- stalls, cultural events, fairs, Instagram businesses etc. and also introducing more revenue streams and sustainable business models. All these measures have helped them in getting introduced to more people, thus increasing their incomes, and making them knowledgeable enough so that they can independently scale their businesses in the future.

About the Millennium Fellow

My name is BOLLAPRAGADA LAKSHMI KRISHNA SAMHITA in short Samhita. I am a junior year student pursuing a BA in ECONOMICS(HONS) from LADY SHRI RAM COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, UNIVERSITY OF DELHI. I excelled in my academics by consistently achieving A grades throughout my career from LKG to 12th class. I am a people person with great leadership skills. What sets me apart from my contemporaries is that I am an upbeat and exuberant person. These qualities enable me to tackle the situation with ease. I am good at managing & organizing events by leading and taking ownership. I know it can be easy to stop being organized/good at management after a while. But I strive to avoid that manage my work as a priority.
I am a quick learner which makes my task run at a faster pace. I like meeting new people and can easily gel with them by understanding their backgrounds. I am passionate about my work and always driven towards it. My aim is to become a Research scholar/teacher and impart quality education with an emphasis on morals, ethics, values and team building. I firmly believe that a teacher plays a pivotal role in building a child's character to become a good citizen of the nation.
My hobbies include dancing, cooking, singing and watching movies in the company of family & friends. I have a keen interest in art crafts which majorly include quilling. I’m always looking for an opportunity to do better. I am thrilled to begin the new journey!!
