Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Sapna

In India, so many children, especially girls are unfortunate that they don't get to attend school because of extremely low family income/ gender bias/ unaware of future possibilities/ jobs. I am thus passionate about educating young underprivileged children so that they can excel in whichever field they wish to pursue and also making them aware of various future jobs/ career paths as they lack a role model in their families.
For my project, I gathered together like-minded students from my university and made a society of 18 student volunteers. One day per week, two volunteers were required to go for a presentation to a school and educate students there about the above-mentioned topics.
Also, as I was assigned the position of Emerging technologist, I recognised the importance of technology in today's life and the fact that everyone should have access to technology irrespective of their backgrounds. Thus, for one day per week, I would go to a government school and teach the students basic computer courses such as using MS Office, Excel and basic Python programming. As teaching computers to 20+ students requires many computers, keyboards and other resources which cannot be afforded by all in India, this was done as a part of an initiative by my home university, which provided computers, keyboards, and other pieces of equipment.
