Millennium Fellowship Project: KLIMA

KLIMA will make an attempt to sensitize and train the residents of the university - from staff to students and workers, in issues including but not limited to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and awareness with respect to the environment around them.
The project aims to conduct sessions in a hybrid (online + offline) form in order to reduce the use of electrical appliances (the core problem), and plans to raise awareness virtually to avoid the wastage of resources like paper and ink for posters.
One of the largest problems pertaining to climate change identified in the University is the misuse of electrical appliances;
1. Serious problems with regard to the functioning of the water heaters (for bathing) and water coolers (for potable water) leading to wastage of electricity because these appliances keep receiving electricity but do not function with efficiency, while at the same time emitting harmful substances (liquids and gases) which are a direct cause for climate change. Moreover, due to an inefficient drinking water system in the University, a great number of students are forced to resort to alternative methods - ordering drinking water cans on a weekly basis, purchasing water purifiers and replacing them regularly, etc. which leads to a wastage of money and increases the amount of plastic being disposed of - thereby directly impacting the climate.
2. There is improper regulation of the air conditioning system which is a matter of grave concern. This occurs because there is no timely check of the usage of the air conditioners, especially in the academic block of the University - more so at night. Students have reported getting severly ill and discomfortable due to the extremely low temperature in their room because of the ACs being left unchecked at night.
3. The elevator system in the Hostel/s is also in need of a "revamp" because it stops working multiple times throughout the day, while the doors keep opening and closing, which wastes electricity.
