Millennium Fellowship Project: Gender Based Violence Intervention on campus
Our Campus Initiative Project is an ongoing programme, a Ford Foundation funded project launched in 2018 and aimed at instituting a model policy template and guideline on sexual harassment prohibition in campuses, leveraging technology (campus pal app) for safe reporting, data generation and training students to be proactive and reactive bystanders on all forms of Gender Based Violence in their institutions. With a simple vision of A just society devoid of all forms of gender-based violence, capable of undermining the existence of mankind in all forms and degree. This aligned well with SDG 5with talk about Gender equality and Target 5.2 which hope to eliminate any form of violence against women and girls in any public sphere.
Sexual harassment is a problem that occurs in schools throughout the nation, whether they be urban or rural, rich or poor, public or private, tertiary, secondary or elementary. Eliminating all forms of violence at work and in education is not only the right thing to do from a human and labor rights perspective, but it also is the smart thing to do for employers and educational institutions in terms of workplace efficiency and productivity.
The objectives:
1. The project aligns with the Sexual Harassment Prohibition Bill in Tertiary institutions, focused on strengthening institutional response to reports of sexual harassment on campus. then training students to be proactive and reactive bystanders on all forms of GBV in the institution.
2. To provide support and proper referral to victims of gender-based violence.
3. To educate 100-200 Students on their human and sexual reproductive health and rights
4.To break the silence on gender-based violence, agitate for increased and improved institutional response to GBV.
We shall organise virtual session and campaigns through the use of posters on various social media platforms promoting gender equality, rights of the girl child and tackling the issue of gender-based violence.and engagements on experiences and solutions to sexual harassment in tertiary institutions.
This is a long term project and gradually more universities will get to sign up. Currently university of Benin has referred our letter of partnership to the PPP department responsible for private public partnership in the university we await the outcome and hope for positive response.
