" Social wellness drives the impact I want to leave on the world. Being a part of Millennium Fellowship will not only provide me a platform to continue the application of my own ideas, but will provide me a community of like-minded people where I can support their unique passions for global sustainability. I'm excited to be a part of a group striving for something so much bigger than any one of us individuals. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Belong
My project is a two part project that will promote inclusion for students who are neurodiverse. Part one will be done on my college campus by creating spaces for our neurodiverse population on campus to lead the conversation on the best practices to promote inclusivity. These conversations will then extend to the rest of the student body to create a more understanding campus community. The next part of this project will be bringing what we have learned from these discussions to local elementary schools in the Southwest Florida region to start educating the youth on how they can be more inclusive of peers they may not understand. I will promote this type of education by creating a captivating digital story that explains neurodiversity in a child friendly, engaging way. This digital story will be designed utilizing the information gathered from our campus forums and the overall input of our neurodiverse community. Resulting in the creation of more inclusive educational spaces for neurodiverse students at Florida Gulf Coast University while simultaneously educating the people who share these spaces. Creating a digital story and sharing this in elementary schools is a way to bring awareness about neurodiversity and how to be more inclusive to a younger audience to create a future where more students feel like they belong.
About the Millennium Fellow
Pamela Manning is a dedicated, resilient, and socially conscious undergraduate student studying at Florida Gulf Coast University where she pursues a double major in marketing and legal studies. Her interest in this field came from a place of avocation. Having a special interest in ensuring social justice for the elderly, for immigrants, for children, and for those who do not fit the mold of society. This drive to serve others came from watching the experiences of her own family, which pushed Pamela to participate in a scholarly career of philanthropy, service, and creating community for others. Supporting social sustainability goals has been a primary focus of Pamela's leadership and involvement, a practice that will not end in her education. Pamela hopes to contribute to improving the way the world views others as she works to educate, serve, and support a future focused on global consciousness and kindness.
