Millennium Fellowship Project: Breast Cancer Awareness Project
Breasr Cancer Awareness.
Breast cancer is a disease in which abnormal breast cells grow out of control and form tumours. If left unchecked, the tumours can spread throughout the body and become fatal. It begins in the ducts or lobules. Breast cancer can spread outside the breast through blood and lymph vessels.
It is disheartening to know that Nigeria has one of the world’s highest age-standardized mortality rates of BC and the highest in Africa. GLOBOCAN 2020 reported BC as the most common cause of cancer-related death in Nigeria, accounting for 14,274 (18.1%) of all cancer deaths.
This project is basically educating girls, young adults on how they can detect breast cancer at an early stage, the symptoms to look out for, the causes, preventive measures and how to live with the stigma that comes with BC.
