Millennium Fellowship Project: Period Is Not Shame

Most girls and women in my community feel ashamed when they menstruate, and they try to hide it. When girls experience their first period, they are not instructed properly, and they encounter many problems. Therefore, Period Is Not Shame, is a project which helps girls and women not only to not feel ashamed because of their period but also to have a period with dignity. Moreover in this project, we encourage men to support women to have a happy and healthy period. To do so we conduct either online or in-person workshops for both women and men in different regions to help them know more about menstruation, and dispel the illusions which cause problems for women. The project is aimed at reaching about 150-200 people during the fellowship period.
The implementation of the project has started and still is going on to raise more awareness among the community so that we can take action to eradicate this taboo. This project is aimed at:
1. Helping girls and women to have happy and healthy periods with dignity.
2. Encouraging men to support women when women are in menstruation.
3. Encouraging and supporting mothers to help their daughters holistically when they experience their first period.
Period Is Not Shame is aimed at addressing:
1. SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being)
2. UNAI 6 (Human Rights)
