Mudzi Wobiliwira is a climate change awareness and action project aimed at educating communities on environmental sustainability, climate adaptation, and mitigation strategies. The project seeks to bridge the knowledge gap by delivering informative presentations to schools, religious organizations, and community groups. By fostering a culture of environmental consciousness, the project empowers individuals to take practical steps to address climate change.
Objectives
1. Awareness: To educate the public on the causes, effects, and solutions to climate change.
2. Engagement: To collaborate with schools, religious groups, and local authorities to maximize outreach.
3. Action: To inspire tangible actions toward environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Activities
1. Community Engagement: Conducted presentations at various institutions, including:
Christian Gang (MIJ) God's Grace Academy
United Christian Churches (UCC) Mlambalala Primary School
2. Partnership Development: Established collaboration with the District Education Manager’s Office (DEMO) to facilitate school outreach.
3. Digital Outreach: Created a Facebook page to share project updates, educational content, and engage a broader audience online.
4. Volunteer Recruitment: Engaged volunteers to support the project’s activities, enhancing execution and impact.
Future Plans
Innovative Research: Plan to incorporate recycled plastics into concrete as a sustainable construction solution, addressing plastic pollution and promoting environmentally friendly civil engineering practices.
Expanded Outreach: Continue engaging more schools, churches, and communities to broaden the impact.
Sustained Digital Presence: Maintain active updates and engagement through the Facebook page to keep raising awareness.
Impact Statement
The Mudzi Wobiliwira project has successfully initiated climate change awareness across multiple platforms and communities. Through strategic partnerships, presentations, and digital outreach, the project has empowered individuals with knowledge and encouraged practical steps toward a sustainable future.
About the Millennium Fellow
Harris Majamanda is a competent, bright Malawian student who is pursuing civil engineering at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences. From a young age, he has always been passionate about contributing to the society and has always taken leadership to ensure that he brings change to the community. As a civil engineering student, he aspires to use his career to help his country adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
