" Regardless of status quo, everyone deserves to know about their health and receive help when needed. At times, there are no existential help which calls for passionate beings to dedicate their dexterity into solving societal enigma. Being a Millennium Fellow offers me the network to connect with great likeminds who are capable and passionate about problem solving. The Millennium Fellowship also equip me with skills to make tangible impact to my school, society and world in my quest for providing solution to societal complexes. I am excited to hone my skills by learning new ways, skills and connecting with creative minds to effect change. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mind Matters: Promoting Mental Health Awareness

The project aimed to raise awareness about mental health among secondary school students in Sagamu, Ogun State. It focused on educating students about the importance of mental health, helping them understand how to manage stress, and encouraging them to seek help when needed.
The project’s objectives included:
• Increasing awareness about mental health and reducing stigma.
• Teaching students simple strategies for managing stress and emotions.
• Encouraging open conversations about mental well-being.
The initiative was conducted in two phases:
1. An introductory session where the team explained key mental health concepts and provided practical tips for stress management.
2. A follow-up session featuring a medical professional who offered expert insights and answered students’ questions.
The project successfully empowered the students with knowledge and tools to care for their mental well-being and fostered a supportive environment where mental health could be openly discussed.

About the Millennium Fellow

Balogun Samuel is a vibrant, young and dexterous medical student at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State. He was born in Abeokuta, resides in Sagamu and is currently studying in Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, OOU; truly a lover of his state. Samuel has more recently been passionate about making researches, participating in health outreaches and making impact to his society. This enthusiasm translated itself from Samuel's experiences in health association and determination to making impact. Prior to his entry to the university and thereafter, he has participated in numerous school, street and community ourreaches and is presently in collaboration for a research work; which he plans to amass enough skills to effect positive change and solve complex problems pertaining to his society. Samuel apsires to be in a professional aura of likeminds where he can further hone these skills and acquire new ones to participate substantially to his societal growth in contribution to the development of the United Nations' Sustainable Goals #SDG 3.
