ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2018
United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. In the three months the application was open in 2018, students applied to join the Class of 2018 on 285 campuses across 57 nations. 30 campuses worldwide (just 11%) were selected to host the 402 Millennium Fellows in the global pilot this year.
The Class of 2018 is bold, innovative, and inclusive. During the Millennium Fellowship, Millennium Fellows' dedicated 48,785 hours and their 214 unique projects positively impacted the lives of 393,449 people worldwide.

" By working with the Millennium Fellows, I hope to expand my breadth and knowledge regarding the causes of global healthcare issues and look forward to aiding in long-lasting global healthcare solutions for women. I look forward to being in a group of dedicated individuals across the world to have open conversations about the work that we are passionate about in hopes of eventually attaining a lasting change in the world. My work over the past 7 years has focused on global health issues and the injustices that I have witnessed have concerned me greatly; and by being a part of the Millennium Fellows, I intend to advocate for legislation, continue raising my voice, and bring people together to ensure that a spotlight is brought to women’s health and international healthcare. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Global Women's Health Initiative
The Global Women’s Health Initiative which was started this past year with the intention to bring awareness to global, particularly non-western, women's health issues in a culturally-competent and immersive way. GWHI takes an untraditional approach to healthcare, addressing and recognizing the medical, legal, and artistic lenses that women’s health can be viewed through. Measurable goals for the next semester can be seen through successfully hosting three events with the goal of helping to bring awareness about women’s healthcare locally and internationally so that we are able to educate the public and advocate for change. These events include a seminar addressing sexual harassment in India from a local activist, a workshop from a local refugee health clinic geared towards engaging refugee women and girls about health education, and finally a lecture from a local homeless clinic discussing menstrual hygiene and ways to access affordable hygiene products on a limited income, often amidst cultural taboo.
About the Millennium Fellow
Nina Patel is a student at Arizona State University, Barrett Honors College and she is majoring in Global Health. She wants to pursue a career in medicine and become personally involved in global health advocacy and health policy. She is passionate about women’s health and bridging the gap between quality, culturally-competent health care, and its affordable accessibility. She hopes to be instrumental in providing medical care to vulnerable populations, improve community awareness about health inequalities, and develop public healthcare solutions locally and abroad.
