" I'm eager to work with others in sharing and developing a network of projects and ideas that promote the sustainability of global pursuits. I'm excited to see the skills, and attributes that others bring to the table and how we will encourage each others leadership qualities in attaining the goals we set. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Make It Grand!
Make it Grand! Is a five-week emergent curriculum used in early education. Be Like Brit Orphanage in Grand Goave Haiti, allowed me to work with their 10 youngest children in giving them access to play that would work on Developmental Areas that may not typically be met in their regular schooling.
-Subject areas such as Art, Literacy, Sensory and STEM
I provided the children with activities to engage their individuality and allow me to asses and document them in areas such as the children’s cognitive, fine/gross motor, verbal, receptiveness, adjustment to routine, and self-help skills.
The total span of the project would last for the duration of the Be Like Brit Summer camp (3 months), and could be recycled into future years be simply adjusting tasks to fit the curriculum criteria. As well as a bag full of materials that can be reused in many various projects was collected and donated with my trip down.
About the Millennium Fellow
I'm Annemarie, I'm a senior at Becker College majoring in Global Citizenship, specializing in education. I've worked as an early education teacher for several years, in Infant-pre-k classes. I never knew I would be a teacher, but working in this field has driven my compassion and leadersip growth in numerous ways. However, despite not knowing I would be a teacher, I have always wanted to work in developing communities. Through my studies and work I have only had more and more opportunities to really understand global developments and their affects on communities, families, and children, and access to education. Most recently I have worked in rural areas of Jamaica and Haiti, in providing access to classroom materials and resources, for both students and teachers. Knowing just what a positive learning environment can do for a students development has given me a drive to help work to distribute access to quality education, and to work on engaging and encouraging others hoping to work in the educational field to broaden their perspective on how their knowledge and experiences can help teachers and students globally.
