" I am excited to be accepted as a Millennium fellow because I want to be part of a positive change in my own community and communities abroad! I want to help raise awareness of poverty in other countries, and to work on projects to help others build self-sustaining social businesses. I am also looking forward to working with other fellows from my campus to achieve the goals we have set for sustainable development. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: OC4OC "One chair 4 One Child"

In rural Jamaica there is a great need for adequate seating in the schools. OC4OC works with a trade school in rural Jamaica to help provide chairs and desks for different schools in need. I am currently the fundraising and event coordinator for OC4OC and I will be hosting two major events to help fund the project. One is a Christmas celebration and the other is a summer golf tournament. I have also raised almost $1300.00 by holding a 50/50 raffle.

About the Millennium Fellow

My name is Faith Whitney and I am entering my junior year at Becker College. I am enrolled in the Psychology program with a focus on mental health and substance abuse. I pride myself in being a very conscientious individual and someone who has a passion to help those in need. I have recently been awarded the Bridge the Gap Scholarship for excellence in my field of study. I have traveled to Haiti and Jamaica with Becker College and my hope is to continue the work I have begun in both countries. I am also the Fundraising/Event coordinator for One Chair 4 One Child which is a student founded organization whose mission is to create a comfortable learning environment for schoolchildren in rural Jamaica who are eager to learn, but struggle to find adequate seating in their classrooms.
