Millennium Fellowship Project: One Health Initiative at Becker College

The goal of this project is to increase awareness of zoonotic diseases, starting with education in our own Becker Community. Zoonotic diseases are of concern for many poverty stricken areas around the world, as the potential for transmission of disease from animal to human is greater in these parts of the world due to lack of education. I have traveled to many places and have seen how education and proper management and healthcare of livestock and companion animal are essential for leading a healthier human life. In January I will continue the One Health Initiative on my trip to Haiti with the Be Like Brit Foundation with my fellow Becker students that include several nursing and pre-veterinary students. It is my hopes to educate the young children on potential diseases that affect their community so that they may bring this knowledge back home and will provide the Becker students with training and pamphlets to help with this awareness.

About the Millennium Fellow

I am a graduating 4th year in the Animal Science program with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Becker College. I am currently applying to several Veterinary Schools across the United States and hope to work in the field of One Health and Oncology Medicine. My passion for One Health work started on a South African wildlife trip where we visited a local farm to educate the people on diseases carried by animals and its affect on the human population.
