Millennium Fellowship Project: Becker College Homework Help For Elm Park Community School

My project is an after school help where elementary kids come twice a week for an hour to get help on there homework. The target audience are kids with bilingual to non-speaking parents that do not receive the help they need at home with homework. I have students from Becker volunteer their time to tutor the children and help them with the homework. We will help students read, write sentences, or do math problems. After if there is time and everyone has completed their homework we go around saying things we are grateful, compliment each other, or play games. The kids have said their grade has improved, the parents are very grateful and the kids are happy. We have also made a new friend group for them.

About the Millennium Fellow

I’m going into my sophomore year at Becker College as a Nursing major. I’ve always been involved in helping others with volunteering at girls inc, neighborhood summer camp, local nursing home, and joining the we are global club at Becker College. Watching my mom help people as a social worker always made me happy and helping others feel better or accomplish their goals always warmed my heart. As a bilingual child I struggled with school work and spent more time studying and reading than playing. With my project I want to help the children that were like me and give them that extra hand after school so they won’t struggle as much and enjoy being a child. Helping others is truly a blessing to me.
