ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2018
United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. In the three months the application was open in 2018, students applied to join the Class of 2018 on 285 campuses across 57 nations. 30 campuses worldwide (just 11%) were selected to host the 402 Millennium Fellows in the global pilot this year.
The Class of 2018 is bold, innovative, and inclusive. During the Millennium Fellowship, Millennium Fellows' dedicated 48,785 hours and their 214 unique projects positively impacted the lives of 393,449 people worldwide.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Assessing Health Beliefs of Afghan Refugees Resettled in Northern Virginia
My project is a research project that aims to assess health beliefs of Afghan refugees resettled in Northern Virginia. This study aims to pinpoint their health needs and gaps in health access and to explore cultural indicators that affect their conceptualization of health and well-being. The methodology I am using is a qualitative study modeled after the Health Belief Model.
About the Millennium Fellow
Vanessa Lim is a Senior in Georgetown University, studying Human Science. She worked in the New York State Psychiatric Institute at the Columbia University Medical Center for 2 years, studying the effects of HDAC inhibition on antidepressant efficacy. She currently works as a research assistant in the Cognitive Recovery Lab at Georgetown University Medical Center, assisting in studies on aphasia and post-stroke recovery. As an aspiring physician, she hopes to use medicine to serve vulnerable communities and to help reduce health disparities.
In 2016, Ms. Lim conducted a needs assessment on mental health access for Syrian refugees in the DMV area. From then on, she decided to frame her senior thesis on health risks and health needs in refugee communities. She is currently working on a research project investing how post-displacement affects overall wellbeing.
