" I am excited to network with likeminded individuals who are using their passion to create an impact in their communities; allowing me to share ideas and successful ways of reaching and engaging people. Moreover, the prospect of collaborating with other societies and organisations is exciting as we will be able to share knowledge and push us to try more innovative practices to reach our goal. I strongly believe the work of Smile Society runs parallel with the MCN values and believe this is a great opportunity to share our work with a larger audience and connect to not only local and national communities, but also globally. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Kings College London Smile Society

Smile Society is a Kings College London society where Dental students engage with primary schools in the local communities to provide dental care advice and enthuse children about looking after their teeth. During these visits, we provide tailored advice to young children about brushing techniques, sugary diets and making them more comfortable at the dentist, thereby allowing them to feel more engaged and enthusiastic about their own teeth and oral health. We also work with vulnerable populations to help tackle issues such as oral pain management and isolation and help provide basic oral hygiene aids to allow them to practise their basic human rights.

About the Millennium Fellow

I am a dental student at Kings College London who is passionate about working with vulnerable and isolated communities to improve their access to healthcare, allowing them to have equal opportunities and improve their standard of living. As President of a society which engages in healthcare outreach, I thoroughly enjoy engaging with and learning from varieties of people and find it extremely rewarding to see change happen from commitment to a project.
